Legal pages for the GearMate app
Last updated: 8 September 2026
GearMate is an app for finding beginner-friendly guitars, basses, amps and multi-effects. This policy describes what the app collects, why, and who it is shared with.
GearMate has no sign-up and no login. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number or postal address.
An install identifier. The first time you open GearMate, the app generates a random identifier and stores it on your device. It is sent with each request so the server can keep your cart and your saved preferences separate from other people’s. It is not derived from your device, your Apple Account or any advertising identifier, and it is not shared with advertisers. Deleting the app deletes it.
What you type into the consultation chat. When you describe what you are looking for, the text is sent to our server so it can find matching instruments.
Your stated preferences. Budget, preferred categories, genres and uses, if you enter them.
Your cart and your orders. GearMate does not process real payments; ordering an instrument in the app is a simulation and no money changes hands. The contents are stored so the app can show them back to you.
Subscription status. If you subscribe to GearMate Pro, your subscription is handled by RevenueCat, which records the purchase against an anonymous identifier.
Anthropic and OpenAI. Consultation text is sent to Anthropic (Claude) to understand your request, and to OpenAI to turn instrument descriptions into a form that can be searched by meaning. Only the text of your request is sent. The install identifier is not.
RevenueCat. Purchases and subscription status. RevenueCat receives an anonymous identifier, not your name or email address.
Apple. If you subscribe, Apple processes the payment. We never see your payment details.
We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising.
Cart contents, orders, saved preferences and consultation history are kept while the install identifier exists. Deleting the app makes the data unreachable from your device; you can ask us to delete it from the server using the contact address below.
GearMate is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
